Beg to differ

I felt that after Karthik's moon mission post we were all swept away by emotion

Here's a dose of objectivity :

It is not always technically possible to do all the stuff u said with robots.
A standard moon rover can go at a maximum of around 2km/hr easily outstripped by any fit human.

Secondly assembling stuff requires a lot of precession. On the IST they use a Canada Arm and I assure you, they dont come cheap. Most indegionous robotics would find it hard to remotely hammer a nail.

India as of now only has the capacity to launch Polar sattelites with certainty (2 successive GSLV tests have failed). Polar orbits are a complicated matter and the region is crowded with many sattelites (space traffic if u like). There is no way to launch an enormous survellaince net without causing global tension.

Currently a profitable proposition would be surveying the moon for minerals.

In conclusion sending an Indian to the moon may not be woth the money but sending a robot and producing truly original work, certainly would not be a lot easier.

you are right to say that robotic mission would be outstripped by any healthy human, very right...but for what time period. Slow and steady wins the race. A robo will be able to work for atleast a year. One must thus think for making better robos.
YOu are right that there is too much traffic in space thats why I ask for survellaince from moon.
