Theories of plant translocation

Another post form flintspark.blogspot.com

Being a student of life sciences also,it is inevitable fo me to include some talk and theories of life sciences.

Firstly,

What i need is a physical application in form of a product of device which uses this phenomenon.

It has been shown by Henry Dixon, that the accent of sap and water to the leaves from the roots is only due to 3 reasons:

1.The transpirational pull
As water evaporates from the leaves of the plant, there is a suction created by this action resulting in a pull drom the roots.
You can also see this by taking a porus pot and gluing a tube filled of water to it,the tube dipped in a jar of water. As the water evaporates, the water level in the tube rises.

This is how water rises to trees even over 100m in height.

2.Cohesion and Adhesion.
The water molecules are cohesed(attracted) to each other forming a continuous column of water.they also are adhesed(attracted) to the xylem vessel(a thin tube) in the plant.

Since xylem vessels are thin, they help in conduction of water in small plants by cappliarity(passive asscent of liquid in a thin tube).

3.Root pressure

The water molecules surounding the root are very much eager to enter the root(due to less water potential in the root).
Thus the root exerts a pressure towards the water in the xylem vessel.

To check this out,cut a potted plant above the root at any place.Sap will exude out of it.

My question is:Is there an device required or already made that works on these principles?

I propose,a motor less water escaltion system to fill up your overhead water tanks. But it doesn't seem plausible.

You can ask it if you don't understand any point.

But if you have understood, start thinking.

Hugs for a great brainstorm,
sameer

Wouldn't that cause problems with the conservation laws of physics?

If not, where would the energy for the same come from, Sam? In fact, where does the energy for the plant sap transport come from?

If u can figure out where the energy comes from, i'll get the mechanism done :)..

and yes, putting more brain to it.. The energy for the transpiration pull comes from the sun...

No, Cohesion and adhesion, need no source of energy... Coz, the net work done is zero...

root pressure.. I claim that transpiration, is what finally, leads to root pressure... hence, the ultimate source of every is the Sun...

and again...

So,motor less transport...

We, need:
1. A bore into the source of water (ground water or ground level water tank)
2. The interface btw the source of water and the bore is a SPM (u work out the details)
3. A device that helps u evaporate water(this could be costly if u'r thinking about manufacture... But pretty easy if, on a small scale u use a jute bag which makes the surface area very very large)... and condense it somewhere else... say at night, when you close the bore so that the water does not go back...

The evaporation creates the pull... but crude calculations tell me that it's be very very small... But still worth a try...

4. We also need to delete this entry fast or file a Patent Application in the name of out group Very fast... :)

go to this link sam....and ish....
and tell me what u think of it.
I'll post my comments soon...

Water escalation system….so some method by which water will be “pulled up” from the ground.
So points 1 and 2 do not hold good now….anyway this method may also eliminate the need for a “bore”.
And point 3….done. The water is supposedly raised up by the “artificial tree” + evaporation is also done.
Also the mechanism for continuous evaporation is achieved…..but the logistics of condensation simultaneously have to be worked out so that the “proposed” overhead tank will be as feasible for use as any “other” normal overhead tank.
